A 38-year-old man in El Paso has been placed under arrest on the charges of arson, following an apartment complex fire in the Lower Valley that resulted in the death of a dog. According to KTSM, the El Paso Fire Department responded to a Condition 2 fire at the Marmolejo Apartments at 600 N. Carolina, which they reported on shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 2.
Additional charges against the man, identified as Cardona, include assault on a public servant, harassment of a public servant, and resisting arrest. This followed an investigation by the El Paso Fire Marshal's Office and the El Paso Police, as documented by KVIA. The fire, which took the life of the animal, was reported at approximately 12:58 a.m. on the day of the incident and was extinguished by 1:22 a.m.
No injuries aside from the tragic loss of the dog were announced. Following the arrest, Cardona has been booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
