In a statement released via social media, El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte announced the arrest of a suspect following reports of family violence. In the early hours of Friday, deputies were called to a scene of assault at a residence located on the 3700 block of Peak, where a woman alleged her ex-boyfriend, John Anthony Etienne, aged 32, had assaulted her. Escaping before law enforcement's arrival, Etienne wasn't present when deputies initially responded to the call.
However, undeterred by the earlier police involvement, Etienne reportedly returned to the victim's home later that morning and, having assaulted her again, inflicted several injuries upon her. The Sheriff's Office reported that the victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte detailed that deputies later apprehended Etienne and arrested him without further incident.
John Anthony Etienne now faces multiple charges, which include Unlawful Restraint, Assault Family Member, Impeding Breath, Continuous Assault on a Family Member, and Retaliation. Following his arrest, Etienne was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. The cumulative bond required for his release has been set at $58,500.
