Tragedy struck the streets of El Paso once again as two individuals lost their lives in a high-speed collision on the 2300 block of Paisano, bringing the city's traffic fatalities to 49 and 50 for the year. According to the El Paso Police Department, Special Traffic Investigations were called to the scene on Sunday to investigate what appeared to be yet another consequence of a vehicle attempting to evade law enforcement.
The incident began when Border Patrol agents noticed multiple individuals sprinting from the border wall and entering an Infiniti G37. The driver of the vehicle then led a chase onto Paisano, pushing the car's limits until losing control during a U-turn, striking a curb and a light pole before the vehicle overturned. The crash led to the instantaneous death of two passengers, whose names have yet to be released pending family notifications.
All other vehicle occupants sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment; their conditions remain unknown. The police are continuing their investigations to fully discern the events leading up to the fatal crash. The El Paso Police's Special Traffic Investigations unit is conducting a thorough review of the incident, as is standard procedure in such serious cases.
