The El Paso ISD Fine Arts Department has launched a playful art exhibit that merges classic masterpieces with the animal kingdom. Furry & Feathered Art History: Famous Masterworks Inspired by the Animal Kingdom is a student-centered showcase rethinking iconic works such as the "Mona Lisa" and "The Scream" with a wild twist.
With submissions from K-12 students, the exhibit transforms familiar paintings into a realm where animals rule the canvas. According to El Paso ISD, visitors can expect to see reinterpretations like the Mona Lisa as a dog and a lion's take on "The Scream." These pieces don't just switch a human for an animal; they reinvent the underlying stories these paintings tell through a fresh and untamed lens.
An opening reception is scheduled on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the EPISD Stanton Gallery, as reported by El Paso ISD. The gallery, located at 1014 N. Stanton St., will display these creative works until the following day, Oct. 22. There's no cost for entry, and all community members are welcome to attend.
Further, select pieces will have an encore at the El Paso Zoo during its "Boo at the Zoo" event on Oct. 26–27, giving the young artists a chance to shine in front of an audience beyond the typical gallery goer. "It’s amazing to see how our students can take something as classic as a famous painting and completely transform it with their creativity," Andrea Smith, EPISD's Visual Arts Facilitator, told El Paso ISD.
