Sunday Brings Full Sun And Triple-Digit Heat
Sunday, August 30, will warm quickly after a mild start, reaching near 100 degrees during the afternoon. Winds should remain light from the southeast at about 5 mph, while the chance of rain stays near 5%.
Tonight will offer only modest relief, with partly cloudy skies and a low around 77 degrees. The combination of a warm overnight and another hot afternoon means homes, cars, and outdoor surfaces will have little time to cool off.
Monday Offers A Small Shot At Storms
Monday, August 31, will remain hot with a high near 99 degrees, but a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 3 p.m. The National Weather Service’s El Paso office says storm activity will be more favored west of the Continental Divide and near higher terrain, while El Paso’s lowlands are likely to stay mostly dry.
The rest of the week keeps the heat turned up. Highs are expected near 97 degrees Tuesday, 98 Wednesday, and 99 degrees Thursday and Friday, followed by a high around 98 Saturday; overnight lows should remain in the mid to upper 70s.
Heat Safety Remains The Main Concern
With afternoon humidity expected to fall into the teens and low 20s, residents planning outdoor work or recreation should drink water regularly, seek shade, and avoid the hottest part of the afternoon. The city’s heat-safety guidance lists cooling centers and directs residents to call 2-1-1 for the nearest available location, including the Galatzan Recreation Center at 650 Wallenberg Dr.
For now, the forecast favors sunscreen, water bottles, and a little patience with the lingering summer heat. The next meaningful rain opportunity is Monday, but even then, El Paso’s chances remain limited.
