The Georgia Department of Corrections recently named Eric Griner as the new Assistant Superintendent of Bacon Transitional Center. Griner, who formerly held the position of Lieutenant at Bacon Probation Detention Center, stepped into his new role last Thursday, October 16, making strides in the department that commended his leadership and commitment.
In a recent announcement, Commissioner Tyrone Oliver highlighted Griner’s contributions, "Griner has been a dedicated team member and exceptional leader during his tenure with the agency." Griner’s new responsibilities include managing the facility's operations, overseeing staff, and supervising approximately 96 male residents.
Griner's trajectory in correctional services began in 2010 as a Correctional Officer at Ware State Prison SP. His role expanded in 2017 when he joined the Tactical Squad and later became a member of the CERT. The promotions continued as he rose to the rank of Sergeant in 2019, and Lieutenant in 2023 at the Bacon PDC. These positions have groomed him for his current role managing and leading in the corrections environment at Bacon Transitional Center.
Throughout his career, Griner has not only served on the frontlines but also enriched his knowledge through education and specialized training. After obtaining a certificate in Emergency Management Training from Central Georgia Technical College, he completed a slew of departmental programs, among them, Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeants Academy, Supervision I, Lieutenants Academy, Chief of Security Academy, Assistant Superintendent Training, and Hostage Negotiations. His expertise, now honed over a decade and a half, is set to infuse Bacon TC with the same caliber of leadership he’s been recognized for in previous capacities.
The Georgia Department of Corrections, and Commissioner Oliver in particular, express confidence in Griner's abilities to advance the operations at Bacon TC. As stated by Oliver in the department's press release, "We look forward to seeing him excel as he takes the next step in his correctional career at Bacon TC."
