Former NFL quarterback and current FOX Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident in downtown Indianapolis. According to WTHR, Sanchez faces charges of battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.

The altercation reportedly occurred near the intersection of West Washington Street and Senate Avenue on October 4. Responding to a physical disturbance, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers found two injured men, one with lacerations and another, later identified as Sanchez, with stab wounds. As stated by Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears, "This incident should never have happened." The prosecutor's office is aiming to steadfastly follow the facts and the law. Sanchez remains hospitalized but stable and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, October 7, as revealed in the affidavit obtained by The Guardian.

An affidavit indicated that the confrontation began over a disputed parking spot at the hotel loading bay. Sanchez allegedly confronted a 69-year-old truck driver, who was there to pick up frying oil, and is accused of trying to unlawfully enter the driver's truck. The driver resorted to using pepper spray and ultimately a knife in self-defense after claiming he thought Sanchez was trying to kill him. "This guy is trying to kill me," the truck driver said he believed, which led to Sanchez being stabbed "two or three times" after the pepper spray failed to halt his advances, as per the statement he told ESPN.

The incident escalated rapidly, with witnesses reporting and video footage showing Sanchez forcibly throwing the man into a dumpster and onto the ground. Sanchez, now 38, was in Indianapolis for Fox Sports duties covering the Colts game. He has been replaced by Brady Quinn for the broadcast following his arrest.
