A fatal crash in Hermitage this morning killed 63-year-old Ritaben Patel and prompted an investigation into a traffic signal discrepancy. According to FOX 17, the accident involved a Mazda MZ3 and a Dodge Ram pickup truck at the intersection of Tulip Grove Road and Chandler Road. Patel, a passenger in the Mazda, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported that both drivers said they had a green light at the time of the collision. The Mazda’s driver suffered a minor head injury and was taken to a local hospital. WSMV noted that MNPD found no evidence of impairment for either driver. Both vehicles left the roadway and entered a nearby wooded area.

The MNPD Traffic Division is investigating which vehicle had the right of way. WKRN reported that officials continue to review the crash and the functioning of the traffic signals. The investigation is ongoing.
