A tragic incident on Highway 20 in Linn County has claimed a life and left others injured. Oregon State Police have reported a severe two-vehicle crash that occurred last Friday afternoon, at around 4:45 p.m., leading to a considerable response and investigation that stretched into the evening hours.
According to the Oregon State Police report, the collision involved a Subaru Outback and a Harley Davidson Road King near milepost 23, where the former, driven by Katherine Elizabeth Spellman, 19, from Longmont, CO, was attempting to merge onto the highway from Liberty Road. The Subaru, while turning westbound into Highway 20, crossed paths with the eastbound motorcycle, operated by 46-year-old Jeremy Wayne Smith of Lebanon, resulting in a devastating side impact. A passenger, Delana Ann Marie Smith, 45, also of Lebanon, sustained serious injuries.
Tragically, Jeremy Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident report details the catastrophic consequences of what started as an ordinary Friday on the roads, which transitioned rapidly into a scene of loss and urgency. Delana Smith was rushed to an area hospital due to her injuries, marking a somber tone to the incident's aftermath.
Katherine Spellman, the driver of the Subaru, was seriously injured in the crash. In contrast, her passenger, Shasta Faith Levin, 18, of Winston, was fortunate to escape physical harm.
