The Florida Highway Patrol is intensifying its search for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a man in a wheelchair in Kissimmee. As reported by WESH, the victim, a 31-year-old man, was attempting to cross Orange Blossom Trail near Hilda Street when tragedy struck early Friday morning. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at around 7 a.m. and involved three vehicles. The victim was outside of a marked crosswalk at the time he was hit.
Of the three vehicles involved—a 2012 Kia Rio, a possible silver Lexus sedan, and a 2012 Ford Taurus—the drivers of the Kia and Ford remained at the scene following the crash. Unfortunately, the individual behind the wheel of the Lexus made the choice to flee. Descriptions indicate the Lexus sustained considerable undercarriage damage due to the impact.
In a statement obtained by WFTV, authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident or the location of the silver Lexus sedan to come forward. Contact can be made with the Florida Highway Patrol at *347 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
