In a recent turn of events, two former Alexandria Police Department (APD) officers were arrested on charges of malfeasance in office following a Louisiana State Police investigation. The arrests, which occurred on October 2, 2025, stem from multiple use-of-force incidents involving former officers Austin Butler and Dylan Tritle. The APD had reached out to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division – Alexandria Field Office (LSP-CID-AFO) back in July to look into the accusations.
According to information disclosed by Louisiana State Police, the investigation led to the conclusion that both Butler and Tritle had engaged in activities that fell outside the purview of their duties as officers. Butler faces an additional charge of simple battery. They were processed at the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Detention Center following their arrest for a aforementioned charges.
The case is now in the hands of the Louisiana State Police, which will take the lead in further investigations. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be submitted to the Rapides Parish District Attorney's Office for review and potential prosecution. As per usual procedure in cases like this, further details have not been released as the inquiry is ongoing.
