A former nurse at Detroit’s Sinai-Grace Hospital, Wilfredo Figueroa Berrios, has been accused of multiple sexual assaults and is now facing a civil lawsuit filed by an alleged victim. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the suit also names the hospital and its owner, Tenet Healthcare, alleging repeated assaults between August 18 and 19 while the victim was being treated for alcohol-related issues. The lawsuit also cites concerns about Figueroa Berrios’s social media activity.

WXYZ reported that Figueroa Berrios faces eight criminal counts connected to three alleged victims, including an incident where he allegedly assaulted a woman inside a porta-john. The lawsuit further claims that coworkers dismissed the victim’s complaints.

In addition to the criminal charges, CBS News Detroit noted that a $100 million civil lawsuit has been filed against Sinai-Grace Hospital. The lawsuit accuses the hospital of failing to protect patients by allowing Figueroa Berrios unsupervised access to rooms.

Sinai-Grace Hospital issued a statement saying patient safety is their priority and that they took immediate action upon learning of the allegations, which included notifying law enforcement and terminating Figueroa Berrios. The hospital also confirmed it is cooperating fully with authorities.
