Former Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan was seriously injured in a stabbing on Hartwell Street, Fall River, Massachusetts, around 5 p.m. yesterday. According to police, Flanagan sustained significant injuries and is currently hospitalized in serious but stable condition, WHDH reports.
The stabbing occurred near Flanagan's marijuana dispensary, which he had promoted on social media earlier that day. Fall River Police Department is investigating and following multiple leads to identify a suspect. Police Chief Kelly Furtado stated that officers and detectives are working to apprehend those responsible, as reported by WHDH.
Current Mayor Paul Coogan expressed support for Flanagan and the police investigation. CBS News cited him saying his thoughts are with Flanagan, his family, and friends, and that the Mayor’s Office is providing full support to the police.
Flanagan served as Fall River’s mayor from 2010 to 2014 and has been active as a business owner since. No arrests have been made, and the investigation by the Patrol Bureau and Major Case Division is ongoing.
