A former Kannapolis teacher, Jordan Hawk, 26, has been arrested in Florida on multiple felony charges involving a child sex crime. According to Queen City News, Hawk is facing four felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor, confirmed by the Kannapolis Police Department.
Hawk was apprehended by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office on a fugitive warrant, court records show. An arrest warrant was issued on October 17, indicating the alleged incidents took place earlier this year when Hawk was employed at a school in Kannapolis, involving a juvenile student. As of now, Hawk is being held without bond and is awaiting extradition to North Carolina to face the charges. It is worth noting, Hawk's relationship to Miami Lakes K-8 Center was highlighted in a report from WTVJ-TV in Miami, tagged by WCNC Charlotte.
The Kannapolis Police Department has been terse with details about the victim or the precise nature of the investigation, but according to Channel 9, the victim was a juvenile student at Kannapolis Middle School. Kannapolis City Schools confirmed to WCNC Charlotte that Hawk had resigned in the spring of 2025 and had not been on their payroll since then. The district also stated that it reported the initial concerns about Hawk to law enforcement immediately and has cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation.
According to WSOC-TV, when the allegations came to light in March, concerns were raised by family members of the victim to Channel 9. At the time, Interim Superintendent Chip Buckwell responded, "an investigation is underway and the outcome of the investigation will dictate the appropriate actions." Hawk is scheduled for a hearing in Florida set for early November and is expected to be extradited to North Carolina afterward.
