A wild chase unfolded in Daytona Beach Shores as a Fort Lauderdale man led sheriff's deputies on a pursuit that ended in his capture on the banks of a river. According to WSVN, Grant Hagood-James, 34, is now facing charges for an armed carjacking that took place on Monday night.

Volusia County officers alleged that Hagood-James committed the carjacking at gunpoint and subsequently attempted to quickly disappear by ditching the stolen vehicle and plunging into a river. An aviation unit played a crucial role in tracking down the suspect. The police pursuit was intense with body camera footage displaying Hagood-James's desperate dash through a restaurant and back into the waters, as per the same report from WSVN.

The suspect's efforts to evade law enforcement led him to the deck of a nearby restaurant, post which he again ventured into the water. Local10 reports noted the deputies eventually located Hagood-James hiding in the mangroves adjacent to the river. His aquatic escape was thwarted, and he was taken into police custody.

The victim of the carjacking was fortunate to walk away unharmed, and their vehicle was later recovered. Hagood-James was arrested on an armed carjacking charge and is now being held without bond.
