The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that escaped inmate Derrick Groves, who fled custody on May 16, has been captured in Atlanta, Georgia. Sheriff Susan Hutson emphasized that escapes are unacceptable and require sustained law enforcement action to ensure fugitives are located.
According to the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office's Facebook post, the arrest was made possible through the joint efforts of local, state, and federal agencies, including the Atlanta Police Department, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the OPSO Fugitive Apprehension Team.
Groves will face extradition to New Orleans, where he is expected to receive additional charges related to his escape. Sheriff Hutson expressed appreciation for the agencies involved and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to maintaining public safety through continued cooperation among law enforcement partners.
