Chaos erupted in Fitchburg over the weekend as gunshots pierced the tranquility of Plymouth Street. The Fitchburg Police Department reported that multiple calls came in at about 10:29 p.m. on Saturday, leading officers to an adult male with a gunshot wound. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, could communicate with first responders and was quickly transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition.
The subsequent investigation swiftly led to the identification of a suspect, Gabriel Rivera, an 18-year-old from Gardner, Massachusetts. A be-on-the-lookout order (BOLO) was broadcasted to the surrounding law enforcement, which resulted in Rivera's arrest in Winchendon a few hours later by officers who took him into custody without the incident, according to the Fitchburg Police Department Facebook's post.
Evidence and initial findings suggest that this shooting was not an indiscriminate act of violence. The victim and the accused, Rivera, were known to each other, indicating some degree of premeditation or personal conflict at play. In the update from the Fitchburg Police Department, "This incident does not appear to be a random act of violence, as the individuals involved appear to be known to each other."
