An investigation is underway by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) after an officer-involved shooting resulted in the death of a man in Wrightsville, GA. The GBI is handling the case at the behest of the Wrightsville Police Department, as disclosed in a statement they released yesterday.
The incident, which occurred early in the morning yesterday, around midnight, saw 32-year-old Diamond Daspin Seltzer of Wrightsville engage in a violent confrontation outside the SideTrack convenience store located on East College Street using a Wakizashi, a type of sword, instead of a machete as originally reported, Seltzer initiated the assault on another man while a local officer was in the midst of a conversation with the individual; the scenario escalated quickly resulting in the officer discharging his weapon to neutralize the threat, as detailed by GBI release.
Seltzer was fatally injured during the incident and later died at a hospital in Dublin, Georgia. The other man involved was treated for his injuries and is now in stable condition, according to the report. The GBI continues to investigate, and its findings will be sent to the Dublin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review. Seltzer’s body is also scheduled for an autopsy by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, which may help clarify the circumstances surrounding the use of lethal force in the case.
