The call reported a man threatening customers on the property.

The GBI reports that around 6:30 p.m., the responding officer encountered a suspect matching the caller's description. The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Otis Ponder of Atlanta, GA., attempted to quickly flee the scene upon being approached by law enforcement. Despite being pursued, Ponder proceeded to to seek refuge in a storage shed behind a vacant house. The officer, in an attempt to detain Ponder, issued multiple verbal commands, which Ponder disregarded. A physical altercation ensued, leading to the officer being pushed over by Ponder and subsequently discharging their firearm, wounding Ponder.

After being shot, Ponder continued his escape, entering another business from where he ultimately received medical attention. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Ponder was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. The officer involved in the shooting was unharmed in the incident. As per the GBI, their role is to conduct an independent inquiry into the sequence of events, after which their findings will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
