The Georgia National Fair is back in Perry, celebrating agriculture, education, and of course, a little bit of spectacle. Running from October 2–12, this year's event marks a special occasion as it aligns with America's 250th birthday, and Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper is pulling out all the stops. According to an announcement from the Georgia Department of Agriculture, the Georgia Grown building promises a particularly engaging lineup, featuring both beloved returning exhibits and some fresh experiences.
"We’re excited to once again highlight Georgia’s #1 industry and the farm families who fuel its success through interactive and educational exhibits," Harper said in a statement obtained by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. This year's fair attendees can look forward to the Georgia Grown Baby Barn, an undeniably heartwarming setup where they can witness live calf births. Concurrently, shoppers might snag some homegrown goodies at the Georgia Grown Market.
Adding to the fanfare, Georgia's own Cheyenne Bastian-Brown, the reigning American Honey Queen, will join the festivities on October 6 and 7. Guests will have the opportunity to catch her in action, participating in activities designed to engage and educate visitors on the sweet importance of honey production in the state.
Inside the folds of the Georgia Grown Building, exhibits run the gamut from the ‘Powerful Peanut’ showcase by the Georgia Peanut Commission, emphasizing the local legume's journey, to ‘Seed to Shirt’ by Magnolia Loom, breaking down cotton's transformation, ranging from fiber to fabric. The fair also touches on heavier topics, with the Georgia Agricultural Wellness Alliance putting a spotlight on farmer mental health and offering insights into resources available for those in the agricultural community, as detailed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
Education continues on the practical front, with the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety elucidating roadway safety protocols for agricultural vehicles.
