As the fall season descends upon Glendale, so does the city’s beloved REC on Wheels program, returning to enliven various parks with a repertoire of recreational activities. This free outdoor program, designed to foster health and wellness among the city’s youth, is set to resume operations on Oct. 14 at Sunset Park, located at 45th Avenue and Mountain View Road, running from 3 to 5 p.m. according to the City of Glendale announcement.

Glendale’s Parks and Recreation Department is once again gearing up to bring a variety of playful equipment directly to local communities. Kids can expect to find LEGO tables, sports gear for flag football, baseball and basketball, soccer nets, and even games like cornhole and chess sets at these pop-up recreational hubs. “We’re happy to provide these wonderful recreational activities that children can enjoy in our beautiful parks around the city,” said Dean Kinnoin, Recreation Supervisor for the City of Glendale’s Parks and Recreation Department, in a statement underscoring the initiative’s commitment to inspire children to play and to actively engage their minds.

Program organizers are inviting children to make their way to the parks post-school hours to indulge in some healthy playtime. The initiative welcomes youths to drop by anytime during the event hours; it’s a come and go as you please setup. REC on Wheels emphasizes parental presence for those with children aged 5 and under, suggesting that parents should remain on-site during their children's participation, as per the City of Glendale.

Families can mark their calendars for an array of opportunities to join the fun, with REC on Wheels scheduled to visit Desert Mirage Park on Oct. 15, Chapparal Park on Oct. 16, and Cholla Park on Oct. 20, among other locations throughout the month. All these events are planned conveniently around school schedules, making it easy for kids to just drop by after the final bell.
