Recognizing the linchpin role local chambers play in economic development, Governor Abbott's decree highlights their efforts in nurturing a prosperous environment for entrepreneurs and working Texans alike.
"Texas' thriving entrepreneurial spirit is the driving force behind our state's economic success," the Governor stated. He credited chambers of commerce for their critical contribution, saying they not only connect people with resources that immensely help to foster business growth and expansion but also to significantly enhance workforce development opportunities. These undertakings altogether contribute to building what he refers to as a "bigger, better Texas," according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
The Governor's pronouncement coincides with impressive statistics for the state—Texas is home to more than 3.5 million small businesses, which represent 99.8% of all businesses in the state and employ nearly half of all working Texans. Chambers of commerce across Texas are acknowledged for supporting the strength and resilience of the state's economy through their advocacy for business growth, expansion, and innovation.
Abbott's celebration of the economic institutions doesn't occur in isolation. Earlier this year, he heralded Texas' achievement of winning the Governor’s Cup for the 13th year consecutively—a testament to the state's aggressive pursuit to attract job-creating business relocations and expansions. The Governor's Cup, as he reminded in his address, is an annual accolade conferred by Site Selection, acknowledging the nation's top-performing state in these economic categories.
