Gunfire Erupts on Atlanta's Joseph E. Lowery Blvd, Teen Suspect Apprehended by S.W.A.T. Team After Chase

Chaos briefly reigned on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW in Atlanta this past Wednesday evening as a routine police investigation escalated into gunfire. According to the Atlanta Police Department's official report, officers were checking out suspicious activity around 6:10 p.m. when a male individual brandished a firearm and shot at them, fortunately missing everyone in the vicinity.

The suspect, later revealed to be a 16-year-old juvenile male, led officers on a chase, ending up in an unoccupied property close to 71 Newcastle Street NW. No officers resorted to using their weapons during this confrontation, despite the risk posed by the armed suspect. A perimeter, was quickly established and reinforcements called in, as detailed by APD.

Specialized units including the APD S.W.A.T. Team, K-9, Homicide Unit, and Drone Unit converged on the scene to assist in the apprehension. The S.W.A.T. team eventually entered the property and secured the area, discovering the young suspect hidden in the woodline adjacent to the building. He was detained without further incident.

Charges are pending, and authorities confirm that no civilians or officers were injured. The suspect’s identity has not been released, and the case remains under active investigation as more details may emerge.
