A former daycare director has been charged with child abuse following an incident involving a 3-year-old at E-Z Daycare in Hialeah. Rosa Alcala, 52, was arrested on after surveillance footage reportedly showed her striking the child, according to NBC Miami.

The case came to light after the child’s grandmother noticed a handprint on his thigh when picking him up. The daycare owner reviewed the footage, confirmed the incident, and notified the family. Alcala was arrested, granted pre-trial release with a $5,000 bond, and has since been terminated from her position.

Daycare owner Natasha Johnson confirmed Alcala’s dismissal to  Local 10 and stated that the daycare is cooperating fully with law enforcement and the Department of Children and Families.

The center issued a statement to NBC Miami expressing concern over the incident and reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a safe environment for children.

Alcala, identified as a Venezuelan national, faced a judge who ordered her to stay away from the child and the daycare facility. Hialeah Police said Alcala confessed to the act during questioning. She remains out on bond as the investigation continues.
