A 31-year-old Hialeah Gardens man, Sabri Uriel Perez, is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder following his involvement in a road rage incident on Sept. 19 in Miami-Dade's Fontainebleau neighborhood. The confrontation led to both Perez and the other driver being shot and hospitalized. NBC Miami reports that Perez surrendered to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies yesterday.
According to an arrest report, after both drivers stopped their vehicles, the victim approached Perez's silver 2020 Audi Q5 and was subsequently shot in the abdomen. The report details a struggle ensued, resulting in Perez suffering a gunshot wound to the chest. This altercation took place near the Doral West Soccer Academy, where children practiced, heightening the concern for public safety. Local 10 notes that the victim attempted to take the gun away from Perez, leading to the violent scuffle.
Upon deputies' arrival at the scene along Southwest 92 Avenue, near Fourth Street, they found bullet casings and secured a memory card from a dash camera, which did not capture the shooting itself, but showed the victim running towards Perez's vehicle. Both men were taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital's trauma center by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel, disclosed in the arrest report by Local 10.
Perez was later held without bond after appearing in bond court today, and Judge Zachary James was appointed to oversee the case. The victim, whose details remained scarce due to memory loss concerning the incident, was still hospitalized at the time of Perez's arrest. Amid these events, Local 10 relayed that Judge James ordered Perez "to stay away from the victim," ensuring a strict boundary is maintained.
Now lodged at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, the case against Sabri Perez is moving forward as he awaits his judgment.
