A high-speed police chase on Interstate 93 in Concord ended in Canterbury early yesterday morning when a Massachusetts man’s car crashed. NBC Boston reports that 20-year-old Benjamin Tapia Gately of Saugus reached speeds up to 120 mph before losing control of his 2020 Honda Civic while attempting to exit the highway. He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police had tried to stop Gately for speeding around 12:51 a.m., but he did not comply. The car went off the ramp at Exit 18 and struck a tree, according to CBS News Boston. There were no other passengers. Canterbury Fire & Rescue assisted New Hampshire State Police at the scene.
Authorities are investigating the crash and asking anyone with information to contact Sgt. Kenneth McGrath.
