A residence in Midtown Memphis sustained significant damage due to a fire that occurred last night. The Memphis Fire Department responded to the incident at 133 North Bellevue Boulevard and brought the fire under control. Flames were visible above the treetops and were recorded by Action News 5's Hi-5 camera from 1960 Union Avenue.
According to Action News 5, the home, constructed in 1905, was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries have been reported. Fire crews continued to address remaining hot spots into the late hours. Meanwhile, as firefighting efforts were underway, the cause of the blaze had not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
The same area experienced a previous house fire last month that was ruled as arson, with the origin point being a sofa on the stairwell between the second and third floors of an another house on the same block. WREG noted this earlier incident lacked working smoke detectors and resulted in an estimated $100,000 in damages as per fire officials.
Confirming that the latest blaze was under control, a spokesperson for the fire department assured that "no one is trapped inside the house" during yesterday's incident. This statement came as crews were still managing the situation at the house as of 8 p.m., ABC24 reported.
