The streets of Horizon City became the backdrop for an illegal high-speed chase as Abraham Duarte Jr. tested his luck and the speed of his Dodge Charger against another racer, resulting in his arrest for street racing, the Horizon City Police Department reported. The shared tale of the night's events comes directly from a social media post made by the department, alerting the community to the risks and legal consequences of such behavior on the roads.
Duarte's white Dodge Charger, paired with a silver Chrysler 300, tore through Eastlake Boulevard, drawing the attention of officers from a collaboration between the Horizon City Police and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, part of their DWI Task Force. The two vehicles were seen racing eastbound, weaving dangerously, and attempting evasion when law enforcement intervened continued on their path of recklessness even as the officers tried to pull them over, the situation highlighting the inherent dangers of street racing and the challenges it poses to public safety. Despite Duarte's attempts to disguise his vehicle's identity, including a rear license plate obscured with yellow caution tape, his run ended near Rifton Court and Horizon Blvd, where he was ultimately detained.
Following the high-speed incident, the Horizon City Police Department issued a stern reminder through their Facebook page about the implications of such illicit activities: "Street racing is dangerous and illegal—it will not be tolerated in our community." Duarte now faces the consequences of his actions, booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $2,500 bond, charged with Racing on a Highway and having an Obscured License Plate.
