The streets of Horizon City are a little safer today, courtesy of the Horizon City Police Department's recent participation in a multi-agency DWI Task Force Operation. Over the October 17-18 weekend, the operation spearheaded by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office saw local officers join forces to combat intoxicated driving. According to a social media post by the Horizon City Police Department, the initiative resulted in 47 traffic stops, 40 written warnings, 7 citations, and 5 arrests.
The department highlighted the efforts of Officers D. Trevino, J. Venegas, A. Retana, and M. Calvillo, who aimed to strictly enforce traffic laws to deter and apprehend impaired drivers. Officer M. Calvillo received special recognition for his proactive arrest of a reckless driver on Eastlake Boulevard. The driver was found operating a Dodge Charger Scat Pack at dangerously high speeds, posing a threat to motorists and pedestrians alike. "Officer M. Calvillo demonstrated exceptional initiative and dedication to public safety," the Horizon City Police Department stated, lauding his vigilance in ensuring that the threatening vehicle was impounded to prevent further danger.
This coordinated effort reflects a growing trend of law enforcement agencies collaborating to increase patrol presence on the roads, particularly during high-risk periods such as weekends.
