Indiana State Police arrested Memphis native and Indiana Pacers rookie Kam Jones on charges of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement after a high-speed pursuit on Indianapolis highways yesterday morning. As reported by Action News 5, the 23-year-old basketball player was clocked driving over 90 miles per hour in a 50 MPH zone, prompting police to engage in the chase when he failed to stop.
According to details from FOX13 Memphis, Jones told officers he did not stop because he was running late for practice, the Pacers rookie who played high school basketball at Evangelical Christian School and was drafted out of Marquette University was expected to start his career with the Pacers' G-League affiliate, the Noblesville Boom, upon recovering from a back injury.
Further details provided by WREG indicated that the incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. when a trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on I-70. Jones allegedly continued onto I-65 before finally pulling over. Sgt. John Perrine of the Indiana State Police confirmed that Jones was aware of the police attempt to stop him.
Jones was taken into custody and booked into the Marion County Jail. His arrest has delayed the anticipated debut of the recent second-round NBA draft pick and is now facing a legal process before he can play.
