An Indianapolis man has been arrested following an investigation into a fatal overdose that occurred in August. Andrew Greer, 39, faces charges of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, as reported by WTHR.

On Aug. 14, IMPD officers found two women unconscious in a car on Southport Crossing Place, near Emerson Avenue. One woman subsequently woke up, and recovered; however, the other, a 44-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators gathered evidence that pointed toward a drug overdose as the cause, an outcome undoubtedly linked, to the proliferation of substances like fentanyl on our streets.

According to WISH-TV, the IMPD Overdose Death Task Force launched an investigation and identified Greer as the suspect. On Aug. 20, during a traffic stop, a K-9 unit signaled the presence of narcotics in Greer's vehicle, which led to the discovery of evidence suggesting drug dealing activities, including multiple cell phones, 20 grams of fentanyl, and over $1,200 in cash.

Finally, following extended investigations, detectives were able to link Greer to the drugs resulting in the fatal overdose. A warrant for Greer's arrest was issued on September 25, and he was apprehended the next day, FOX59 notes. This marks the 11th arrest of this nature by the task force in the year 2025, sadly a testament, to the ongoing struggle against drug-related tragedies in Indianapolis. Greer's trial is scheduled to begin on January 27, 2026.
