An Indianapolis man has died following a shooting incident on the city's near west side over the recent weekend. The victim, identified by coroners as 40-year-old Clifford Hudson, succumbed to his injuries two days after being admitted to the hospital in critical condition, as reported by FOX59.

On Sunday just before the late afternoon at 4 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of N Tibbs Avenue on a report of shots fired and a person shot. Once on the scene, they found Hudson with a gunshot wound, lying in the middle of the street and in critical condition, detailed by WRTV.

After the tragic event, IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson shared with FOX59, "At this time, detectives are continuing to work to figure out what led to this disturbance, and what led up to this altercation that ended in violence." According to police, the victim had been standing next to an SUV, engaging with its occupants, when an individual in another vehicle shot him in the head and then fled the scene. This reported shooting on Indy's near west side comes as the city marked its 126th homicide of the year, the lowest figure for this date in a decade.

Witnesses played a critical role as IMPD questioned two individuals who were present during the incident, later releasing them. "As always, we're always asking the community to come forward," Thompson told FOX59. The information about the suspect, however, remains scant, as IMPD continues to seek assistance from the public. Hudson had encountered violence in the neighborhood before, being shot in the groin in August, and had spent time in jail following an arrest in a warrant sweep named Operation Guardian, according to the same FOX59 report.

With the investigation still underway, no arrests have been made in connection to Hudson's death. IMPD asks anyone with information about the shooting to contact IMPD Det. Jose Torres at the IMPD Homicide Office by calling 317-327-3475 or by emailing [email protected], WISH-TV reported. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477 (TIPS).
