Residents of Johnson City are getting a unique opportunity to learn about fire prevention directly from the experts. The Johnson City Fire Department (JCFD) is set to take over the upcoming Community Roundtable on Thursday, October 9, promoting life-saving knowledge during Fire Prevention Week.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week, which is running from October 5-11, focus on the campaign "Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home." It's an effort to specifically bring to light and to better educate residents on the potential dangers that these common household items can pose if not used or stored correctly. Firefighters are determined to address this modern safety concern and are preparing to also offer hands-on instructions on the proper use of fire extinguishers through an interactive exhibit.

According to the City of Johnson City, these engagement efforts exemplify the dedication of JCFD personnel who will answer questions and talk about wide-ranging fire prevention methods and emergency preparedness. The meeting is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. and will be held at the Langston Centre, located at 315 Elm St. Attendees will be provided with essential fire safety information for their homes.

All community members are invited to this open forum which, as noted on the city's announcement, is not restricted by formal membership or appointed board status. It's an encouraging sign of open public discourse where residents can gain vital knowledge in fire safety, directly impacting the wellbeing and future of their community.
