The City of Johnson City is seeking applicants to fill a vacant Commissioner seat following the resignation of John Hunter. Under the city charter, Vice Mayor Greg Cox has been elevated to Mayor.
According to a Johnson City release, applicants are asked to submit a letter of interest and a resume outlining professional and community service experience. The letter should also address how they would approach city issues using the 2025 Strategic Plan, which is available on the city’s website.
Submissions must be sent by email or delivered to the Municipal and Safety Building by noon on Friday next week. All applications will be posted on the Johnson City’s official website.
Each commissioner will select two finalists by 9 a.m. on October 13. Letters of support for candidates are due by 5 p.m. the same day. Finalists will then participate in public interviews at the Municipal and Safety Building.
The appointment of the new Commissioner is scheduled to take place during the regular Johnson City Commission meeting on October 16 at 6 p.m. The selected candidate will take the oath of office immediately and serve until November 2026. The position is nonpartisan.
