Orange County was shaken by violence when a juvenile was shot and killed during an altercation on a basketball court at Vogt-Meloon Park in Orlando. As reported by ClickOrlando, the incident occurred yesterday afternoon and quickly escalated, leading to a lockdown at the nearby Oak Ridge High School. The suspect, also a juvenile, fled the scene and was detained by the school resource officer at the high school.
After the shooting at Vogt-Meloon Park, the victim was transported to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. As authorities worked into the evening collecting evidence, the identity of neither the shooter nor the victim had been released to the public. The lockdown at Oak Ridge High School was lifted shortly after the arrest, with Orange County Public Schools ensuring that "Students and staff that remain on campus are safe," according to ClickOrlando.
Concurrently, WESH covered the aftermath as parents rushed to the school amidst the chaos. Arielle Baker, who feared for her child's safety during the lockdown, expressed her distress. "There's like an active something, I want to go up there and get my child," she shared. Her daughter Aubryana, once safe, reflected on the gravity of the situation, "It’s scary cause you realize how serious it is."
The community experiences a wave of concern as law enforcement continues its investigation.
