Knoxville motorists should prepare for possible delays as intermittent lane closures begin on I-275 North and South starting October 13. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is entering the final phase of bridge improvements over Elm Street and Bernard Avenue, which will include applying final pavement markings and installing new traffic control devices.
The construction will take place nightly, with lane closures scheduled between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Friday morning, October 17. Work is expected to continue on this schedule throughout the week, weather permitting. Any inclement conditions could cause delays in the project’s completion. TDOT is advising motorists to exercise caution and patience, as delays are possible during the overnight construction. With crews working in the area, drivers are urged to reduce speed and stay alert while passing through the work zone.
For those planning their commutes, TDOT encourages drivers to “Know Before You Go.” Motorists are reminded to stay focused behind the wheel—avoid distractions like texting or calling—and consider alternate routes if I-275 traffic conditions appear congested during the construction period.
