A fire broke out in a Las Cruces residence this past Tuesday, causing significant damage to the home's garage. The Las Cruces Fire Department (LCFD) responded to the scene on the 4600 block of Mesita Street shortly before 1 p.m., according to the Las Cruces Fire Department.
The garage was fully involved in fire upon arrival; however, the quick action of firefighters kept the blaze from spreading further into the house. Officials have not yet released a statement detailing the cause of the fire; investigations are ongoing. The homeowner, who had attempted to tackle the flames before firefighters arrived, suffered minor burns during the ordeal.
In their efforts to combat and contain the fire, the LCFD managed to limit most of the damage to the garage area. "Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and contain most of the damage to the garage of the home," was the statement obtained from the Las Cruces Fire Department. The homeowner received on-scene treatment by LCFD personnel before being transported to a local hospital for further care.
