The Las Cruces Police Department's latest traffic operation swept through Lohman Avenue, serving as a reminder for motorists to toe the line on traffic laws. Over the course of a one-hour enforcement held last Thursday, authorities doled out 29 citations, focusing their efforts on a range of vehicular missteps.
During the sting, 10 motorists found themselves cited for pushing past the speed limit. Nine drivers were caught behind the wheel of vehicles not properly registered; the paperwork for these cars, like autumn leaves, had seemingly fallen by the wayside. Four were ticketed for lacking proof of insurance, an oversight that can haunt a driver long after they've reached their destination.
The operation, which took place along North Solano Drive starting at 3 p.m., also saw officers addressing less common but still concerning violations. Among these were drivers distracted by cell phones, failing to maintain their traffic lane, and those with modified exhausts. According to the Las Cruces Police Department, these miscellaneous offenses round out the list of citations issued by the Traffic Unit.
