Drivers in Las Cruces, take heed: the police are on high alert for traffic violations. In a recent operation on E Lohman Avenue, the Las Cruces Police Department's Traffic Unit issued a significant number of citations to errant motorists, all within the span of just one hour. According to the City of Las Cruces, the crackdown took place between Walton and Solano Drive and began at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2.
The numbers tell the story of a vigilant enforcement action, with a total of 64 citations handed out to various offenders, the majority reprimanded for registration issues and speeding, and the city's website details the breakdown: 15 of those citations were for drivers who couldn't resist pushing past the posted speed limits, 22 were handed to those caught without proper vehicle registration, and nine more for cruising the streets sans proof of insurance.
But the sweep didn't stop there; the operation also netted citations for a handful of other transgressions, including five instances of driving without a license, three for using a cell phone while behind the wheel, and seven more for miscellaneous traffic infractions that show a blatant disregard for the rules of the road intended to keep us all safe.
