A recent act of domestic violence has escalated into a tragic event on October 12, with police charging 53-year-old Christopher Ford with the murder of his wife, Tia Jurado, and the attempted murder of his adult son. As per the arrest report accessed by Channel 13, an argument over their shared business and personal relationship problems led Ford to fatally shoot Jurado and critically wound his son.
Officials were called to the scene at a northwest valley apartment, where they found Jurado unresponsive near the front door and both men critically injured. Ford and his son were transported to the University Medical Center for medical treatment, despite Ford having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Jurado was pronounced dead on the scene, and the son, Javeh Ford, was found with serious injuries outside the apartment, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Javeh Ford recounted to the police that the argument had escalated quickly, with his father refusing to hand over car keys to his mother when she attempted to leave, leading her to threaten to call the police. It was then that the senior Ford grabbed his gun and shot Jurado at close range, later turning the weapon on his son. Police have stated that the accounts given by Javeh Ford matched the video and ballistic evidence from the crime scene.
In an act meant to defend himself, Javeh Ford was forced to return fire after being shot in the leg. Javeh "stated if he hadn't used his firearm to defend himself, he believed he would have been killed," according to the details found in the arrest report by Channel 13. Support for Javeh Ford has been growing, with a GoFundMe page raising nearly $4,000 to help with recovery and associated expenses, as noted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "At a time when no one should have to worry about anything but healing, Javeh and his loved ones are now facing overwhelming emotional and financial challenges," a friend organizing the fundraiser stated.
