In an unprecedented step forward for local law enforcement technology, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has introduced a fleet of Tesla Cybertrucks to its patrol division. The trucks were revealed by Sheriff Kevin McMahill during an event at the world's first AI-powered hotel, Otonomus, yesterday. These electric behemoths are slated to aid officers with tactical tools for critical calls such as barricades and shootings, spreading out across various area commands.
According to LVMPD's announcement, this move by Sheriff McMahill is in line with his goal to elevate LVMPD's technological status to be the foremost in the nation. The fleet of Cybertrucks joins a list of recent upgrades including the Joint Emergency Training Institute and a Drone First Responder Unit. Funding for these high-tech patrol vehicles came from a donation by philanthropists Ben and Felicia Horowitz, ensuring that not a single tax dollar was allocated for this purpose.
The Cybertrucks have been customized for police use by Unplugged Performance and Upfit, and their appearance is courtesy of wraps provided by Ink and Architectural Expo. Demonstrating a commitment to innovation and sustainability, the police department chose to unveil these vehicles at the sustainable and tech-forward Otonomus Hotel. A video of the unveiling ceremony can be watched through LVMPD’s provided link, showcasing not just the Cybertrucks but also the distinctive ambience of the AI-powered venue.
