The City of Lawton is launching the second year of "No Cart November," a program to collect abandoned shopping carts from around the city. According to the City of Lawton's official website, the Solid Waste Division will focus on gathering stray carts throughout November, in addition to their regular trash collection duties.
Residents can include any retrieved carts in their bulk waste pickup during their assigned week. Empty carts added to bulk waste will not count toward the standard four cubic yard limit, and no extra fees will apply. Pickup dates are organized by area, starting with Area 1 on November 3 and continuing through December 5 to accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday. Carts containing items will not be accepted. Residents who find additional carts after their scheduled pickup can contact the Solid Waste Division to arrange collection.
Collected carts will be stored at the Public Works Administration Building and can be reclaimed by the original owners at no cost until the end of January. Any unclaimed carts by February will be sent to a scrapyard. For more information, residents can contact the Solid Waste Division at (580) 581-3428 or the Public Works Department at (580) 581-3410. Full program details are available on the City of Lawton’s website.
