
Last Friday, a collision occurred involving a Garland police officer, which resulted in the death of a local man. The incident unfolded on the 1500 block of West State Street, near McKinley Street, and was confirmed by a social media post from the Garland Police Department.
According to the report, the officer had just departed from the police station at 1891 Forest Lane and was journeying eastbound when he encountered a truck stopped in the roadway without lights at approximately 6:30 a.m. "A male was standing at the front of the vehicle, in the middle of the road," the Garland Police Department stated. Despite efforts to evade the unexpected obstacle, the officer's vehicle impacted the truck and struck the man, identified as 32-year-old Juan Pablo Rios Aguilar of Garland.
Aguilar was swiftly transported to a hospital following the collision; however, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The officer involved was also given medical attention and has since been released from the hospital.
