
The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the arrest of a 55-year-old man in the wake of a shooting in Northwest Washington, D.C. The incident took place in the Sursum Corda neighborhood. According to a press release from the MPD, First District officers were summoned to the 1100 block of 1st Street, Northwest, following a report of an armed individual last Friday, October 17, at about 8:14 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the suspect had brazenly brandished a firearm, fired at the victim, and then proceeded to swiftly flee the scene. In their immediate response, the officers disseminated a lookout and began to thoroughly canvass the area. It didn't take long before First District officers happened to spot someone who matched the suspect's description. A routine stop was conducted, and during the ensuing protective pat-down, law enforcement officials were able to retrieve a weapon.
A prompt "show-up"—a police procedure used to identify suspects—resulted in a positive match, protruding the investigation to its critical juncture. The suspect, identified as Thurman Williams of Northeast, has been taken into custody and charged on multiple counts, including Assault With A Dangerous Weapon, Carrying A Pistol Without A License, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, details the police department's announcement.
