An officer-involved shooting in St. Charles County resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man, who was shot by a law enforcement official following a confrontation last night, according to multiple reports. The incident occurred in the 600 block of Hickory Dale Drive after police responded to a domestic disturbance call around 6:30 p.m., as reported by KSDK.
Upon arrival, the responding officer encountered a man and a woman who were engaged in a heated altercation, kneeling and arguing on a front porch, when the man allegedly stood up brandishing a knife, as detailed by Advantage News; despite attempts to deescalate, the situation intensified, the man reportedly advancing towards the officer, forcing the officer's hand, and shots were ultimately fired leading to the fatal outcome making the one shot decisive singularly concluding the confrontation, with no injuries reported among the responding personnel.
The St. Charles County Police Department has not released the identity of the victim, and the incident is being thoroughly investigated by the St. Charles County Critical Incident Response Team. According to a statement obtained by FOX2now, Officer Shawn Birdsong conveyed that investigators are "still investigating what led to the officer firing his weapon" and that their inquiry was in its nascent stages.
