A rescue unfolded in the Arizona wilderness when a dog was airlifted to safety after a serious fall. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office released video footage last Friday showing the helicopter rescue of the K-9, which was injured during a camping trip near Battleship Rock in the Superstition Mountains, according to ABC15. The dog was unable to walk due to its injuries and had to be evacuated from the remote and rugged area.
Deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Aviation Division carried out a search and rescue mission, as reported by AZ Family. Deploying from a helicopter into the canyon where the injured dog and at least three men were located, the team used extra supplies and a specialized harness to safely hoist the animal into the hovering aircraft.
Once secured, the dog was flown to an emergency veterinarian for necessary medical attention, as per report by ABC15. The online response included comments noting the nature of the rescue, with one audit observer referring to it as, "Now that’s a search and rescue," in reaction to the Sheriff's Office video.
