A Martinez man, 44-year-old William Daniel Eberly, has been brought up on multiple felony charges involving alleged lewd acts with minors, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office reported.
Details of an arraignment, held recently, were made public and illustrate a grim picture. Eberly, who was a correctional sergeant with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, is accused of forcible lewd acts on a child under 14 and lewd acts on a child aged 14 or 15. Court documents maintain the victims' anonymity, as they are identified only as Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2. Contra Costa County officials stated that these offenses occurred between November 2020 and December 2024.
During his court appearance, Eberly pleaded not guilty to all eleven counts. The judge, responding to the gravity of the charges, set bail at $1,025,000 and granted two criminal protective orders to shield the alleged victims, as requested by the District Attorney's Office. A preliminary hearing has been marked on the docket for November 3 at the A.F. Bray Courthouse in Martinez.
