A tragic turn of events unfolded on a Tennessee road Friday evening after a Maryville man was struck and killed in a multi-vehicle crash. Jesse Malone, 31, was identified as the fatality in the collision that occurred on Williams Mill Road at Oak Hill Drive around 7:51 p.m., according to the WVLT report.
The Alcoa Police Department responded to discover a fiery scene involving a black Honda Pilot, driven by Malone, and a white Ford van. Malone, who was found unresponsive at the crash site, later succumbed to his injuries at Blount Memorial Hospital. The driver of the van, Ronald Weaver, 33, also of Maryville, has since been charged with a sundry of offenses, including vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, as mentioned in a social media post by the Alcoa Police Department.
Weaver, according to WATE, was also involved in another incident - sideswiping a vehicle on Old Knoxville Highway before fleeing to Williams Mill Road, where he failed to maintain his lane while navigating a blind curve and struck Malone's vehicle. He repeatedly refused medical treatment at the scene before his eventual arrest and subsequent transport to the UT Medical Center for a medical evaluation.
The collision investigation is being handled by the Alcoa Police Department's fatal crash investigation team.
