A DeKalb County condo complex suffered extensive damage from a fire last evening, displacing several residents. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that firefighters were called to the scene near Interstate 85 Frontage Road and Colonial Way, where about 75% of the building was engulfed in flames. Despite hours of firefighting efforts, the building was ultimately deemed a total loss.
The fire forced 25 people, including five children, to find new accommodations, officials said. Crews continued working on hot spots around 8:45 p.m., and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Atlanta News First shared accounts from affected residents. Drake Connally, who was displaced, said he initially thought the fire started from food burning on the stove. Kingston Wilson, 16, said he focused on getting his younger brother and their dog out safely.
The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced, while authorities and fire investigators continue to investigate the incident.
