The McNairy County Sheriff's Office recently posted a public notice on social media regarding a series of ongoing scams in the area. According to a Facebook post, individuals are receiving calls from impersonators claiming to be law enforcement officers.
These callers reportedly tell recipients they have missed jury duty, owe fines, or can resolve arrest warrants by making payments over the phone. The Sheriff's Office stated that these calls are attempts to collect money or personal information.
The Sheriff’s Office advised residents to be cautious of phone calls that attempt to create urgency in order to obtain personal information. Individuals receiving such calls are instructed to hang up immediately and avoid sharing any personal details. The office also provided a direct contact number, 731-645-1004, for those who wish to verify the legitimacy of any law enforcement-related communication, noting that official agencies do not request payments or sensitive information over the phone.
